Couple, 34 others arrested in Imo for murder, kidnapping

A couple, Mr. and Mrs. Emeka Adibe, and 34 other suspects were on Tuesday paraded before newsmen by the police in Imo State for various offences. They range from murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of fire arms, child trafficking and cultism.

Parading the suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, said the couple was apprehended in Rivers State in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Mrs. Amaka Okere.

Ezike said, “You may recall that on March 1, 2017, one Mrs. Amaka Okere, aged 45, of Mbieri in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State was kidnapped and murdered.

“Emeka Adibe and Monica Adibe were arrested on June 15, 2017 in Rivers State in connection with the murder and the victim’s telephone handset recovered from them. Investigations are ongoing.”

The couple said the telephone was given to them by their in-law, Chuks Ikechukwu, said to be on the run.

Parading other suspects, the state police boss disclosed that on June 25, following a distress call from Charismatic Catholic Church, Water Board, Owerri, that some suspicious persons were moving around the premises, policemen moved in and arrested one Odinaka, 32, from Abia State.

He said that a search of the suspect’s Golf car with Registration Number GG 13 LED, led to the recovery of one AK47 rifle with four magazines loaded with 105 rounds of live ammunition.

“His arrest and interrogation led to the arrest of Nwachineme Emmanuel from a hotel in Amakohia, Owerri, whom he named as a gang member. Suspects were engaged in kidnapping and armed robbery in Owerri and environs, using Aba as their base,” Ezike explained.

The CP equally said that one Chikason Ekpo was nabbed at the Ohaji area of the state on May 25 for armed robbery and kidnapping along the Owerri-Port Harcourt expressway with one locally-made double-barreled pistol and two live cartridges recovered.

Ezike added that Chinedu Onyeakosi, Chinaza Onyeakosi and Chidi Donatus were apprehended in Amucha in the Njaba Local Government Area of the state for selling a newly born baby for N350,000 and drugging the mother of the child in the process

He said one Ikenna Nwosu, 24, of Isiala Mbano Local Government Area was arrested with a vandalised black Toyota Camry with registration number AAA 868 DM belonging to one Ekwemalor Chidiadi of Abriba Street, Owerri.

The car, Ezike said, was snatched at a gunpoint on May 17, 2017 at the Aladinma area of the state capital.

The police boss said one double-barrelled locally-made pistol, one iron cutter, two long machetes and one mask were recovered.

Ezike added that following the kidnapping of Chika Duru on June 24, her stolen Toyota Corolla was intercepted at Anara in the Isiala Mbano LGA of the state with the aid of forensic technology.

He said that one of the suspects fled, while one Emmanuel Obioha was shot dead, and one Chikodi Okorie of Achi Ogwa was arrested the victim rescued unhurt.
