Team Nigeria excites Nigerians in the UK
London – Nigerians resident in the UK joined others in cheering Team Nigeria as they file pass during opening ceremony at the Olympic stadium in London.
The Nigeria Hospitality House at Stratford, the Olympic site reports that most Nigerians, who could not afford the ticket watched the ceremony on a big Television screen.
Some of them, who wore green T-Shirts with inscription “New World Nigeria’’ could not hide their excitement as they watched Team Nigeria file pass with their green white green attire.
Ms Jenny Okafor, a lawyer said, it was delightful to see the athletes in high spirit filing out to be part of the epoch making event.
“I am so excited and very happy to identify with these patriotic countrymen and women who are flying our flag at this Olympic.
“The most significant thing about Olympic is participation and that is exactly what I’m most excited about, though I pray that we make the medal tables,’’ she said.
Another Nigerian, Dehinde Oni, an IT Consultant, he was committed to projecting the country in positive light just as the athletes.
“I want to salute the dedication and commitment of these athletes and pray that their efforts at this game will not be in vain,’’ he said.
The team is made up of 55 athletes, 12 coaches, 29 administrative officials, nine medical officers, five contingent officials and six secretariat officials.
The Nigeria is participating in eight sports: Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Canoeing, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
