Euro 2012: Ozil fit to face Danes after rest

GDANSK (AFP) – Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil missed training on Friday “as a precautionary measure” to prepare for Sunday’s Group B match against Denmark with a place in the Euro 2012 quarter-finals at stake.

The 23-year-old Real Madrid attacking midfielder has been in stellar form at the European championship having earned the man-of-the-match award in the 1-0 win over Portugal and impressed in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Holland.

Germany need just a point against the Danes to be confirmed as group winners, which means a quarter-final at Arena Gdansk on Friday.

“Mesut Ozil spent the day in the physiotherapists room, but it was just a precautionary measure, all the players are available for the next game, including Mesut,” said Germany’s assistant coach Hansi Flick.

“He has run a lot for us here at the Euro and also for Real last season and we just want him to be fresh for Denmark.”

“We need to show a bit of latitude with players who have had a busy season, which is what we did with Mesut today.”

Do have your say: Can Germany emerge the Euro 2012 winner?
