Security man, 40, bags 3 months jail for negligence
A Karu Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 40-year-old security man, James Sunday, of Grand Service Limited, Abuja, to three months imprisonment for negligence.
Chief Magistrate Shaibu Ahmed sentenced the convict to three months imprisonment with an option to pay N2,000 fine, after he pleaded guilty to the offence as charged.
“This is because the convict is a first time offender,’’ he said, adding that he was sincere enough to have pleaded guilty to the offence he was charged with.
Police prosecutor Albert Okara had told the court that the convict was entrusted with the key to a Peugeot 306 car with Reg. No. NO 986 BWR, to supervise.
Okara said the convict did not make any effort in ensuring the safety of the car until it was stolen and could not give the owner of the car any genuine or satisfactory explanation.
The prosecutor said the conduct of the convict constituted an offence, which contravened the provisions of Section 197 of Penal Code.
He prayed the court for a summary trial in view of the fact that the convict had pleaded guilty to the charge against him. (NAN)
