CPC seals bakery, filling station over fraudulent activities
The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has sealed the premises of Divine Grace Bakery in Dutse Alhaji, a suburb of Abuja and an NNPC franchise outlet at Jiwa in the FCT, over fraudulent activities.
Speaking after sealing up the bakery on Tuesday, Mr Shamn Kolo, the Head of Surveillance and Enforcement of the CPC, said the bakery was sealed for using fake labels.
He said the bakery also operated under unhygienic environment which he said, was not acceptable.
“The environment is too dirty for such business and they are using two labels and packages which belong to other popular brands to sell their products.
“They are giving misleading information to the public and from our surveillance, we discovered that most of their products go to schools.’’
It was gathered that the bakery operated with three labels which belong to Imperial Bread, Victory Special Bread and Essence Special Bread.
The bakery is surrounded by a public toilet, a tomb and a refuge dump.
The Manager of the bakery, Mr Joseph Oyeleke, denied the allegations, claiming that the labels were dropped at the bakery by customers.
At the NNPC franchise station in Jiwa, two fuel pumps were sealed for under-dispensing fuel to consumers.
According to Kolo, the consumers get 17.8 litres any time they buy 20 litres which means they are short-changed for about N220 on every 20 litres purchased.
He said the only pump which was close to normal was not used in attending to buyers which meant there was a deliberate intent to cheat.
The Manager of the station, Mr Sam Odo, said he did not have any knowledge of the issue as he was not a technician.“We have an engineer who sets the pump, so I don’t know anything about it.’’(NAN)
