Youths protest alleged killing of pastor’s wife
Youths in Igede-Ekiti Tuesday took to streets protesting the mysterious killing of the wife of a pastor, Mrs. Taiwo Oluwole.
Taiwo, who was in her 40s and wife of the Pastor in- charge of the Zion Baptist Church in Age Quarters in the Community, was suspected to have been either raped to death or killed by some ritualists on Saturday while on a visit to Ule Ona farm, in the suburb of Aramoko-Ekiti, a neighbouring community.
The action of the youths led the monarch of the town, the Onigede of Igede, Oba Joseph Aladesuru and his chiefs, to abandon their meeting which had been on when the restive youths stormed the palace.
The youths, however, threatened to burn the palace if the monarch refused to have an audience with them, even as they defied the advise of the law enforcement agents who had warned the students not to move near the palace.
Vanguard gathered that the deceased‘s husband had raised an alarm on Saturday’s evening that his wife, who accompanied him to Ule Ona Farm in the morning, though for different missions, could not return after several hours he had returned home from the same farm.
Police and other law enforcement agents had a hectic day in controlling the mob, as they struggled to ensure that the palace’s entrance door was closed to prevent the irate youths from gaining entry into the palace where the monarch and his chiefs were holding a meeting before the youths stormed the palace.
