FG/Boko Haram dialogue: NOA tasks Nigerians on tolerance
By Ben Agande
Abuja— Following the revelation that the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, has indicated its willingness to negotiate with the Federal Government, Director-General of National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mr. Mike Omeri, has called on Nigerians to support the move for the sake of peace.
Omeri, who spoke in Abuja, said the agency had offered to mediate in the dialogue.
It will be recalled that the Islamist sect had, in a recent statement, said it decided to initiate the peace move in response to numerous public appeals for peace in the country.
Omeri said: “In an atmosphere of peace, our differences can be better understood. As Nigerians, we are our brothers’ keepers and good neighbours.
“We have shared in the breaking of fast and have extended solidarity both ways. The call for dialogue at this hour is a manifestation of the efforts we have been making.
“I appeal to Nigerians from all shields of opinion and religions to guide against their comments, work towards peace and say only positive things that will lead us to lasting peace and brotherhood as one nation.”
