Obi, best governor in Anambra – Bishop
The bishop on the Niger, Right Reverend, Owen Nwokolo has commended the Government of Mr. Peter Obi saying no government has equaled his efforts in partnering and empowering the church to provide efficient health and education services to the people. He also noted that God was using the Governor as a vessel of honour to touch the lives of the people.
The Bishop was speaking while receiving the cheque of N20million as part of the money for the construction of the hostel project of its School of Nursing.
The Governor also presented a State-of-the-art life ambulance and medical equipment donated by the Emma Bishop Okonkwo Foundation to the hospital, as well as two other hospitals: Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi and St Charles Borromeow Hospital, Onitsha.
Earlier the Hospital Administrator, Reverend John Amaizu said, God used the Governor to answer the prayer of the hospital and recalled his prompt response in saving the schools of Nursing and Midwifery in the State and ensuring their accreditation.
Reverend Amaizu disclosed that the Governor has also provided the hospital with N120million to upgrade structures and facilities for second accreditation and has brought life to mission schools.
Similarly, Archbishop Valerian Okeke, while receiving the ambulance and equipment for St. Charles Borromeo, thanked God for the gift of Peter Obi to Anambra and expressed hope of continued positive Partnership between the State and Church.
Responding, Governor Peter Obi said his administration was working to upgrade hospitals in the State to discourage people from seeking healthcare abroad.
He said government was equally supporting the hospitals to train quality manpower that would drive the health sector to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
Governor Obi disclosed that government was sourcing funds to provide accommodation for other health workers as part of measures to enthrone first class healthcare delivery services.
