Ramadan: Hausa community seeks peace, security
Awka – As Muslims prepare to start this year’s Ramadan, the Hausa community in Anambra has appealed to the state government to provide adequate security for their members.
Alhaji Garba Haruna, the leader of community, made the appeal when he led a delegation of the community on a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor, Mr Emeka Sibeudu, in Awka on Thursday.
He commended the government for ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.
”Anambra is Nigeria’s best example of peaceful co-existence, sealing differences, rejecting divisions but rather building on brotherhood as a common ground for the socio-economic development of the state and the nation as a whole.
”May you please provide our people more support in terms of security during the Ramadan.
”We plead that you assist us to perform our individual and congregational prayers without any security prejudice or being subjected to any unfair treatment or any violation of our freedom.
“We commend Gov. Peter Obi’s peace initiative to avert reprisals over the recent unfortunate events in some parts of the north.”
Haruna said that the governor’s efforts had enthroned stability and ”a spirit of hope and confidence in the hearts of our members in the state”.
While decrying the violence in parts of the north, he said: ”there is no religion that permits killing or suicide bombing; all these things are the works of the devil. ”
Responding, Sibeudu said that the state under Obi, had experienced “tremendous” transformation.
He promised the delegation that the state government would continue to ensure adequate security in the state. (NAN)
