NCC Shuts Down First Bank In Akure For Illegal Internet Services
Business activities at the First Bank, Alagbaka branch area of Akure, the State capital was today paralysed as officials of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) stopped its banking activities for allegedly using an illegal internet services.
Scores of its customers were not allowed to enter the banking hall.
The old generation bank was alleged by the NCC to have been operating on an illegal internet facilities which was not licensed by the commission.
Addressing reporters in Akure, the NCC Head of Enforcement team, Mr. Efosa Idehen said the bank was using a frequency that is not lincense by the commission.
According to him “we have reported the bank at the Police Station that we found a discount transmitting on its frequency band. As at now we have shut down the link and also asked them to remove the outdoor and indoor units and bring them down to station in order to document them.
“The bank had been operating on internet facilities that has no label. The bank had been depriving the federal government of its right because before you can make use of internet services, you must have a label, even if you are not buying it directly from us, the person you are sourcing from must have a label on its internet”.
He explained that the frequency band is meant for data transmission.
Idehen said that the bank has violated the laws of the commission, and its may take a legal action against the bank.
However, the NCC Head of Enforcement team said they have tour round all the states in South West, and also shut another First Bank branch in Ibadan.
