Vandal electrocuted in Imo
BY CHIDI NKWOPARA, Owerri
A middle aged young man, suspected to be a member of a gang whose stock in trade is to vandalize installations of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, has been electrocuted.
Saturday Vanguard investigations revealed that the late PHCN vandal, whose identity could not be ascertained at press time was electrocuted when he tried to vandalize the facilities at the Industrial Cluster, Naze, Owerri North local council area of Imo State.
When contacted on his mobile line, the PHCN Senior Manager, Public Relations, Owerri Business Unit, Mr. Ositadinma Ugwuafor, confirmed the ugly incident.
“Our initial investigation revealed that the suspected vandal had successfully climbed up the facility and unfortunately, public power supply was restored before he could do any harm to the equipment. He was immediately electrocuted”, Ugwuafor said.
Answering another question, Mr. Ugwuafor said he only knew about the incident about 12 noon last Thursday.
At the time of going to press, the lifeless body of the vandal was still lying at the site and it was not clear if the police had been properly informed about the incident.
