Lagos AG urges aggrieved persons to seek NASS reversal
By ABDULWAHAB ABDULAH & ONOZURE DANIA
LAGOS — Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, yesterday, said rather than go into the streets to protest the change of University of Lagos, UNILAG, to Moshood Abiola University, MAU, the students and other stakeholders, should pressure the National Assembly not to amend the law on the name-change.
He spoke at a capacity development workshop organised by National Association of Judiciary Correspondents, NAJUC, in Lagos.
He argued that since UNILAG was a creation of law, the one way to change the name was by the amendment of the same law, notwithstanding the President’s announcement, urging the students and others stakeholders to prevail on the National Assembly not to amend the law setting up the university, which was the only way the name-change can be effected in law.
Stressing the importance of judiciary reporters to the development of laws and justice system, Ipaye said the training workshop for journalists, especially those covering the court cannot be over-emphasised.
He commended the organisers of the programme while promising his ministry’s collaborations with the journalists.
Ipaye said: “Any money and time spent on training of judiciary correspondents can’t be said to be a waste.”
