Following series of lottery activities by the telecoms operators in the country, the national Lottery Regulatory Commission, (NLRC) has warned again that it would deal accordingly with any operator that fails to abide by the rule of the game, adding that only those with impecable character should be in the lottery business.
Assistant Director, Regulations and Monitoring of the Commission, Henry Uwadiae who spoke to IT Journalists last week in Abuja disclosed that the NLRC has carried out a number of regulatory activities to sanitize and grow the lottery industry in Nigeria .
“Whoever that wants to go into lottery must approach NLRC. We advise the public to call on lottery commission whenever they have doubts in any lottery activity.
“Operators must separate lottery and gambling. Protection of the players is at the heart of what we do. From time to time, we undertake independent checks on lottery activities. We also witness lotteries involving draws to ensure transparency and integrity as required by section 27 (3) of the National Lottery Regulation 2007” he explained.
It would be recalled that NANS had faulted the just concluded Etisalat FC barca promo which ran from February, 12 2012 through May 12, 2012.
“ We do not collaborate with any operators for any dubious thing. We do independent verification of winners. We license lottery operators. We vet lottery license. We oversee statutory remittance to the Trust Fund. We collaborate with law enforcement agencies and sister regulatory as provided for in section 13 (1) of the National Lottery Regulation 2007 in sanitizing lottery industry.
“Above all, we in collaboration with the Police arrest and prosecute illegal lottery operators as well as seal off heir premises where and when necessary. The era of impunity in the lottery industry is gone. All lottery operators must take our permit” he explained.
