A passenger plane has landed safely at Dunedin Airport after a smoke alert.
At least 50 people were onboard the Air New Zealand flight NZ8077 from Christchurch to Invercargill.
ONE News understands a light on the aircraft indicated there was smoke in the cargo hold.
As the Q300 aircraft was preparing to land at Dunedin a smoke warning light in the cockpit came on intermittently and the pilots called a local standby which is standard procedure.
Air New Zealand diverted the flight to Dunedin due to fog at Invercargill.
There was no evidence of smoke in the aircraft and it is believed the indicator light was faulty.
It comes on the same day an Air NZ plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Auckland Airport.
