Steve McClaren appointed Nottingham Forest manager

The former FC Twente and England boss has signed a three-year-deal to take charge at the City Ground, replacing Billy Davies, who was sacked on Sunday.

McClaren has been targeting a return to management in his homeland after an unsuccessful stint in charge of German club Wolfsburg ended in February.

In a statement, the 50-year-old said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be appointed manager of Nottingham Forest.

"I'm fully aware of expectation of the team and I'll do everything in my power to get the club back into the Premier League."

Forest took the decision to replace Davies after suffering defeat in the Championship playoffs yet again last term, and the club's chief executive Mark Arthur is in no doubt that McClaren is the man to go one better and lead the club into the top-flight.

"The club moved quickly to secure his services as it is rare for a manager and coach of his undoubted calibre to be available," he told the club's website.

"Steve has a proven track record of coaching and managing at club level, having played a key role in helping Manchester United secure the Champions League trophy, three Premier League titles and an FA Cup.

"He guided Middlesbrough to the League Cup and also to the final of the UEFA  Cup and then led FC Twente to their first ever Dutch title.

"We are delighted to have him on board at The City Ground."
