Doctors again protest kidnap of colleague
Awka – Medical doctors in Anambra have again staged a peaceful protest against the incessant abductions of their colleagues in different parts of the state.
Led by Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Onitsha branch, Dr Livinus Chukwuma, the doctors marched to Government House, Awka, on Friday evening.
Chukwuma noted with dismay that doctors had become the target of kidnappers in different parts of the state.
“Just on Sunday, Dr Okwudili of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi was abducted by unidentified gun men, and has not been released till now.
“Today, before we came, we received reports that another doctor had been kidnapped.
“We don’t know who will be the next doctor to be kidnapped,” he bemoaned.
The chairman appealed to the state government to come to their rescue by ensuring that their abducted members were set free unhurt by their captors.
Chukwuma pointed out that doctors would not go back to work until their kidnapped colleagues were released.
The state Deputy Governor, Mr Emeka Sibeudu, who received the protesting doctors, described the security situation in the country as worrisome.
Sibeudu observed that the incidence of kidnapping was not peculiar to the state but assured them that the state government would do all within its powers to reverse the ugly trend.(NAN)
