Piracy battle: NCC re-arraigns Onwujekwe in court

LAGOS – The Nigerian Copyright Commission, NCC, Monday, as part of its anti-piracy campaign, re-arraigned a 32 years of man, Anthony Onwujekwe before a Federal High Court, Lagos for alleged copyrights infringement on musical works, sound recording and cinematography films.
The re-arraignment on a three count-charge followed the decision of Justice Okon Abang, the former judge in the matter to hands-off the case as a result of the attitude of the defence counsel.
At the hearing of the matter, yesterday, the prosecution urged the trial judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, to order the charges to be read to the accused person, in view of the fact that the case had just be re-assigned to him.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the three count charges, following which his counsel pleaded with the court to allowed him to continue on the previous bail condition given by Justice Abang.
The prosecution did not object, as the court granted the request and adjourned till June 13, for hearing of the prosecution’s motion.
Onwujekwe was alleged to have on or about November 6, 2009 made for sale or for the purpose of trade or business, 20,000 pyrated copies of musical works, sound recording and cinematograph films in CD, VCD and DVD formats of various titles.
