Lack of self control has landed a 30-year-old man, Akeem Oyewale, in big trouble with a neighbour at Adekile area of Ibadan, Oyo State, when he was caught, not pants down, but boxers off, as he engaged in a sexual frenzy with a 15-year-old girl called Taiwo, his neighbour’s daughter.
To add salt to the injury of the neighbour, Sunday Tribune gathered that the incident which occurred on Wednesday February 2, 2011 took place right in the apartment of the neighbour while he was out with other members of his family, leaving Taiwo behind. Taiwo’s father is one of the members of the family which owns the building where they reside, so, he is not a rent-paying resident.
Reports had it that Akeem who sells planks at Bodija market in Ibadan and is married with one child, had gone to the parlour of his neighbour, where Taiwo, her twin sister, Kehinde and their mother occupy, to have sex with the SSS1 student, having waited for the time the occupants of the house would have gone out to ensure quietness and freedom to do what he planned to do.
Akeem got busy and was in a frenzy as he neared climax, but was abruptly brought back to the earth from cloud seven when the door of the parlour was shoved open, rudely interrupting his coital experience.
In reflex action, since sex between human beings is supposed to be a private affair, Akeem scrambled to get up, while his manhood immediately shrunk and hid its head in shame, as did its owner. The young man quickly grabbed the boxers he had thrown off before the act, used it to cover his private part from the eyes of the intruder and hid behind a chair, with a mat beside the chair falling on him as if in alliance with his move.
It was Kehinde who just came back from the streets where she had gone to hawk pepper for her mother that opened the door to drop the tray of pepper and relax a bit, unknown to her that an illicit sexual act was going on. As she came in, she noticed her twin sister on the floor, panting and blinking, holding her hands to her chest in fright. Though she had her skirt and blouse on, she was naked under as her pants had been pulled off before the act.
The girl’s eyes darted from Taiwo to the chair behind which she perceived a presence. Thinking Taiwo was in danger, Kehinde went towards the chair, pulled the mat off and saw Akeem. As he saw that the lid had been blown off the pot, the man, reportedly joined by Taiwo, started pleading with Kehinde not to expose him, but Kehinde would have none of that. She raised an alarm and also put a call through to their father.
The twins’ father, Mr Durodola could not believe his ears when he was told what happened. With the belief that Akeem must have raped his daughter, Mr Durodola lodged a complaint at Agugu Police Station, which led to the arrest of Akeem. The young man however denied raping Taiwo, saying they had sex together with the girl’s consent. He also added that the day they were caught was not the first time they would be having sex, as he had already slept with the girl twice before then.
Speaking with Sunday Tribune, Akeem admitted that he was caught having sex with Taiwo but claimed she was his girlfriend. “Taiwo and I had been having a relationship though this was unknown to people as we kept it a secret. This was because I am married and living with my wife in the same house with Taiwo and her parents. I have had sex with her before in my room twice when my wife was not around. At that time, my wife was ill and had to go to her parents to stay with them so that she could be taken care of.
“On the day we were caught, we were in the sitting room where Taiwo used to sleep with her mum and sister. We were having fun when Kehinde suddenly opened the door and caught us in the act. She said she would raise an alarm but Taiwo and I pleaded with her not to, but she did. Their father went to report to the police and I was arrested. What is amazing to me is Taiwo’s denial that we were lovers and the act was with her consent. I did not rape her. To confirm our relationship, she had my phone and slippers with her and when I informed the police of this, they went to search her bag and found the phone in it. She had requested that I bought something for her during Christmas and new year celebration and when I could not afford it, she kept my phone, that she would return when I fulfil my promise to her. How come she is now saying that I forced myself on her”?
When asked whether he knew that sexual intercourse with a girl under 16 years of age, with or without her consent, is defilement and is punishable by law, Akeem said he did not know this.
However, Taiwo insisted that she had no previous relationship with Akeem, saying that he forced himself on her the day he was caught. According to Taiwo, “the first time I had an encounter with the man was a day I was having my bath in our makeshift bathroom and he came and removed the wrapper I used to cover the doorway. I shouted and the old woman in charge of the house and my mother rushed there. When I told them what happened, he was seriously warned against such an act in the future.
“On the day of the last occurrence, I was sleeping on a chair in our sitting room when he came and held my neck. He forcefully removed my pants and attempted tearing my blouse off but could not. He then raped me. He was still on the act when my sister came in. He covered his manhood with his pants and ran behind the chair where he was discovered by Kehinde. He was the one begging Kehinde, I didn’t join him, but Kehinde called our father to intimate him of the occurrence”. Akeem negated Taiwo’s claim that he had pants on, saying that he had boxers on that day. This was confirmed by Kehinde who said she saw Akeem holding his boxers.
When asked whether that day would be her first time of experiencing sex, Taiwo answered in the negative, saying she had a boyfriend called Bayo who had slept with her twice before in his friend’s house. The medical report also confirmed that the sexual act was not Taiwo’s first while semen was noticed in her vagina.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku for further investigations while the police image maker in Oyo State, Olatunji Ajimuda, a Superintendent of Police, told Sunday Tribune that the suspect would be charged to court for defilement.
