All white for Uche
Late Uche Okechukwu
Former Nigeria internationals and indeed, all ex-footballers wishing to pay their last respect and attend the burial of late Uche Okafor have been advised to be in white wears.
Speaking on the funeral plans for their former colleague, a member of the famous 1994 Super Eagles squad, Ben Iroha said, “we thought it wise that friends and colleagues(ex-footballers) should wear white shirts to the lying-in-state and funeral ceremony of Uche. White depicts purity and that informed the decision because Uche Okechukwu was considered as one who was pure.”
Continuing, Iroha reasoned that almost every Nigerian adult owns a white shirt, “and that makes it easier for those who would want to come as there would be no need to go for uniforms or any other thing like is commonly done,” he argued.
Uche Okafor was murdered in his home, Little Elm, Dallas, USA on January 6, 2011under mysterious circumstances.
He is to be buried in Nigeria this week as the lying-in-state and funeral ceremony which is jointly put together by the ministry of sports, National sports commission and the Imo State Sports Council has been scheduled for February 17 at the Dan Anyiam stadium, Owerri, the Imo state capital
