Bakassi youths threaten to raise a terror group like Boko Haram

HUNDREDS of Bakassi youths yesterday besieged the National Assembly in Abuja warning that if nothing was done by the Federal Government before the October 10 deadline to reclaim the disputed oil-rich area, they would raise a terror group like Boko Haram in Cross River State.

Addressing reporters at the National Assembly complex yesterday, the leader of the youths under the aegis of Cross River State Political Network, Prince Michael Nku said: "What is happening now in the core northern part of the country will be a child's play because we will ensure justice is given to us. We will perpetuate more mayhem than what Boko Haram is presently doing in the North.

"Bakassi as a people have always been Cross Riverians in particular and Nigerians in general and they speak Efik, bear our names and share in the culture of the Efiks. Bakassi is a Local Council in Nigeria and no such entity ever existed in Cameroun."

He continued: "Let us imagine the Green Tree Agreement (GTA), an agreement that emanated from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) judgement that purportedly ceded Bakassi to Cameroun.

"It will be glaringly observed that the agreement has been breached and the United Nations charter on Human rights the founding blocks of the UN that saw to the need for the formation of the ICJ has been breached"

Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Victor Ogene received the youths and assured that "the House committee on Treaties will soon make available its report on its spot assessment of the situation in Calabar."

Ogene who represents Ogbauru Federal Constituency in Anambra State, added: "It is when they have submitted the report that the House can take a stand on this matter."
