Imo APGA pleads for patience on sacked council chiefs
AS controversy continues to trail the enforcement of Appeal Court judgment on the ouster of elected local council chairmen by the Imo State government, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has urged parties to the dispute to await the Supreme Court ruling on the matter.
It, however, denied receipt of warnings on the consequences of disobedience of the verdict.
In a statement signed by APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bernard Akoma, and made available to The Guardian, the party rued what it described as “the unconventional manner in which the implementation of the Appeal Court judgment on the councils in Imo State is being pursued.” APGA decried the alleged desperate action of the police when the state government had appealed against the ruling.
He said: “It is trite law that whenever a motion for stay of execution is pending before a court of competent jurisdiction, all parties are expected to maintain the status quo.
“We wish to state that the party or Imo State government for that matter has never been served with any drawn-up order or forms 48 and 49, which ordinarily are necessary warnings about consequences of disobedience as to empower the police to enforce the judgment by force.”
