President Goodluck Jonathan : I have enormous powers, but won’t intimidate opponents
President Goodluck Jonathan said yesterday that despite the “enormous powers” attached to the presidency, he has no plan to use the incumbency factor and intimidate his opponents or anybody.
“As sitting President and Vice President, we have enormous powers but we will never discriminate against anybody because we believe powers are used for the benefit of the masses. Even though we are contesting this election, we will not use power to intimidate anybody, the election will be free and fair; one man one vote; one woman, one vote, one youth, one vote,” he said yesterday at his campaign rally in Akure, Ondo State.
The President who expressed delight at the crowd, said presidential powers should not be “used to intimidate people, powers are not used to repress people, powers are not used to create money for the society,” but should be used positively to develop people.
He promised to keep faith with the electorate, saying that Ondo State will play significant role in the economy of the country.
According to him, his government would create deliberate policy to create job by funding small and medium scale enterprises.
He congratulated the three Labour Party chieftains that formally decamped to PDP at the rally, saying they would be given equal treatment.
Speaking earlier, Vice President Namadi Sambo said Jonathan and himself always feel at home in the South-West because they both had their NYSC in the zone.
Also speaking, Speaker Dimeji Bankole urged the people of the state to prove that assumption of office of the Labour Party through the court was a fluke.
