Gunmen Attack Vice President Sambo’s House, One Killed, Two Cops Injured
Three gunmen, riding on a motorcycle, yesterday at about 11:30a.m., opened fire on the Zaria residence of Vice President Namadi Sambo, killing a cobbler and injuring two mobile policemen attached to the building.
Sambo’s house, which is located on Baba Ahmed Road in Tudun-Wada area of Zaria, was razed during the post-election violence last year, but was undergoing reconstruction at the time the gunmen struck.
According to Kaduna State Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Balteh A. Abdulrazaq, “There was an attack. But the house was under construction. The policemen were guarding the house.
“A cobbler was killed by stray bullet as a result of the exchange of fire between the three gunmen and policemen. The cobbler died while one of the policemen was shot in the leg.” An eyewitness told Daily Sun that the cobbler was shinning the shoes of one of the policemen attached to the residence when the incident occurred. “The three gunmen who were on the bike stormed the house located at Tudun-Wada area of the city and fired at the policemen guarding the house.
“The cobbler was actually shinning the shoes belonging to of one of the policemen attached to the house. They shot at the policemen. They actually got two of them, one in the leg and the other one in the hand. The bullet also hit a shoe shiner. I don’t think the shoe shiner was their target,” the eyewitness said.
Unconfirmed report said that one of the anti-riot policemen attacked by the gunmen had died. But a source said the two policemen were rushed to the Hamada Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, Zaria for treatment.
