Christian Obodo’s release: Mother lauds Jonathan, prophet

As the Super-Eagles player, Christian Obodo regained his freedom Sunday night in Warri, Delta State, his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Obodo, yesterday commended President Goodluck Jonathan and Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin for contributing immensely towards the release of her son.

Mrs. Obodo, who spoke with Daily Sun in an exclusive interview in Warri, yesterday, was full of joy that her son, who was kidnapped on Saturday at the new lay-out in Effurun, Warri was released at about 7.50pm by his abductors without paying any ransom.

She expressed appreciation to President Jonathan, who she said, gave a marching order to the Delta State Police Command to fish out the Super-Eagles player within 24 hours.  Elizabeth, who could not hold back her tears, commended Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, General Overseer, Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, Ekpan for praying fervently for the release of her son.

Reacting to the release, Prophet Jeremiah Omoto, said when the abduction occurred, the mother of Christian in a text message, pleaded with him to pray for his freedom. Meanwhile, a former council chairman for Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Emmanuel Sorokwu has regained freedom after five days in the den of kidnappers. Family sources said  Sorokwu, who was abducted last Wednesday by gunmen, was seen at Ubulu-Uku junction in Isele-Uku, last Sunday.

It could not be ascertained if the family parted with any ransom for the release of the ex-council boss. Spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Charles Muka, who confirmed the release of the victim, told Daily Sun that the police already had three suspects in its custody in connection with the abduction.

Sorokwu, who was a superintended in  Aniocha South Council Area between 2008 and 2011 was kidnapped around Nsukwa village while going to his village at Ejeme-Aniogor from the council headquarters of Ogwashi-Uku. “I beg you pray for my son who has just been kidnapped yesterday (Saturday).

The abductors asked for N30million ransom which should be paid before Sunday which is the deadline, else, he will be killed,” said the cleric.  In a prompt reaction, the cleric said he prayed earnestly assuring her that nothing will happen to the International soccer star.

“As God would have it and after fervent prayers, Obodo’s mother then called that her son has been released, praising God for his wonderful works”, said Prophet Fufeyin.  Meanwhile, the footballer is said to have gone to Asaba to meet with the Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for a close door meeting.
