Early last month, the FCT announced plans to demolish 19 villages in Abuja suburbs in an effort to restore the Abuja master plan, and the residents of Mpape will be deeply affected by the order.   A visit to the village showed that all houses have been marked for demolition.  Some of the residents have started parking their properties for fear of been caught up in the exercise. Recently a group of women under the aegis of the area’s Market Women Association staged a peaceful protest to National Assembly over the planned demolition. Some residents also went to the FCT High Court to seek an injunction to restrain the FCDA from going ahead with the plan, but the application was dismissed. The authorities have not made any alternative arrangements to resettle the affected villages, which include Other villages Idu, Karmo, Dape, Tasha, Gwagwa, Suburi, Zauda, Jahi, Gishiri, Mabushi, Kuchigoro, Chika, Aleita, Piwoyi, Lugbe, Pyakassa, Tundun-Wada, Deidei and Guzape.
