Who Won What at the 2012 BET Awards!
Rappers Jay Z, Kanye West and R&B-Pop stars Beyonce, Chris Brown emerged as the biggest winners at the 2012 BET Awards which went done July 1, 2012 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
The duo of Jay Z and Kanye (The Throne) walked away with the awards for ‘Best Group’ and ‘Video of the Year’.
While accepting the ‘Video of the Year’ award for the eccentric ‘Otis’, Jay-Z joked with partner Kanye West, interrupting the latter as he was trying to give his acceptance speech.
‘Excuse me, Kanye, I’m gonna let you continue, but ….’ Jay-Z joked reminding everyone about Kanye’s infamous interruption when Tayor Swift won at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
Beyonce also took home two awards, – ‘Best Female R&B Artist’ and a joint award with Alan Ferguson for ‘Video Director of the Year’.
‘I fell in love with music by listening to R&B, and it’s at the core of who I am. I want to thank BET for giving R&B a home and also the talented women before me, Lauryn Hill and Mary J. Blige, and I dedicate this to Whitney Houston, my angel’, Bey gladly said.
Chris Brown won ‘Best male R&B Artiste’ and also performed during the show. He later picked up the award for the ‘Entertainer of the Year’.
There were performances Nicki Minaj (who was named best female hip-hop artist for the third year in a row), G.O.O.D Music acts, Big Sean (who was won ‘Best New Artiste’), Chante Moore who performed a tribute to the late Donna Summer, MMG bosses Rick Ross and Meek Mill and others.
It was all teary-eyed when Mariah Carey, Brandy, Monica, Chaka Khan and Houston’s mother Cissy and Gary performed a very emotional tribute to Whitney Houston.
As reported earlier, Nigerian pop act Wizkid and Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie jointly picked up the award for ‘Best International Act: Africa’ beating the likes of Camp Mulla, Lira and Ice Prince.
Meanwhile, the Rev. Al Sharpton was presented with the ‘Humanitarian Award’ by BET Networks chairman and CEO Debra L. Lee for his work in bringing awareness to Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old who was fatally shot earlier this year by a neighbourhood watchman
