JAMB Exams Shifted Again

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination [UTME] earlier scheduled to hold on 11 June has been shifted to Saturday, 18 June.

The examination, according to Professor Dibu Ojerinde, the Registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board [JAMB], was postponed nationwide because of the on-going NECO examinations.

According to Ojerinde, most of the students who applied to sit for the UTME are expected to write NECO’s Biology Practical on 10 June, and as a result may not be able to partake in the UTME a day after, owing to the fact that some of the students will need to travel to their exam centres.

“The board has been inundated with requests from parents of children who chose towns outside their present locations to reconsider and shift the date to 18 June, 2011 as against the earlier fixed date for the examination.

“In order for the board not to deprive many candidates of the opportunity to sit for the 2011 UTME, it became necessary to change the date,” the registrar said.

When asked if the exam questions will not leak as a result of the postponement, a JAMB official who doesn’t want his name in mentioned, argued that it will only afford the examination body more time for a better preparation.

“The result will be positive because we now have more time to perfect our strategies. The postponement is simply a blessing in disguise for the board and the students themselves. So let’s look forward to better organised and coordinated examination come Saturday 18 June 2011,” the official stated.

Some of the students that spoke with P.M.NEWS also said they are happy about the postponement.

The students noted that the development will not only give them enough time to prepare better for the exams, but will also allow them concentrate better on the on-going NECO exams.
