Gunmen had on Thursday evening shot and killed Alhaji Zannah Kafilama, the former Secretary to the Late Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Mustapha Umar Elkanemi after performing his 8pm (Tarawih prayers) at a Mosque in Polo Area of Maiduguri metropolis.

An eye witness who does not want his name mentioned told our Correspondent that two gunmen came into the mosque before other congregations around 8pm and pretend as if they are waiting for the normal time for the Tarawih prayer., Unfortunately, one of the gunmen hid his AK47 rifles, under his Sallaya carpet, pointing out that as soon as they were about going out of the mosque after the prayers they heard a sound of gunshots, a situation that forced those who were inside and around the Mosque to run away for their dear lives.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer DSP Gabriel Jibrin said, some gunmen had on thursday trailed Alhaji Zannah to a Mosque in Polo Area, and after performing the Prayers altogether, the gunmen shot him dead and fled without being arrest."

Jibrin said, already investigation has commenced with a view to arrest the culprits even as he added that the Joint Task Force has condoned off the area to prevent further attack and killings.

He stated that the security agencies are doing everything possible to ensure a hitch-free Ed-il Fitr celebration in and around the troubled state, adding that people should continue to cooperate with the JTF and the Police with information that will expose the hideouts of criminals in the state.
